There is also an excellent document on the MS SQL Server documentation webpage at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/isapi/msdnlib.idc?theURL=/library/psdk/sql/8_gs_00.htm If you look for the topic "Building SQL server applications" under "Microsoft SQL server programmers toolkit" branch.
All the samples on those docs are for VB and the SQL server but with a little of imagination you'll find very easy to understand a lot more than just the basis of ADO
