Hi John,

I use the revised Codebook framework. It's free. You can find it at Flash technology, http://www.flashcreative.com/. There is an active site user supported forum at http://www.leafe.com/cb3/forum/default.html.

No matter which framework you choose, make sure that it is view based. When you edit data you are editing parametized views of data, not the tables directly. If you edit views of data, you can eventually move your database to Oracle or MS SQL Server without having to change your application too much. I think most frameworks on the market have this approach.

Some frameworks allow you to switch back and forth between local views and remote views. This allows users to use the same edit screens for remote views and local views. You can then have a copy of your data on a laptop unconnected to the network and still use the same application to query and even edit the data.

The framework should use business objects to talk to the views of data. The business objects should be separate from the gui. The framework should have good step-by-step documentation on setting up your first business object and data entry screen.

Good luck,

Paul de Niverville

>I currently don't use a third party framework, but I have to build a few small applications (File server based) multi-user...nothing extravagant, but I thought that I would use this opportunity to test out using a framework. So, my questions is this, What would be the best choice for building smaller applications quickly, without a steep learning curve. Also, I would like to re-write a larger application I currently support with this same framework. I did indeed peruse threads here on the subject of frameworks, but I came away even more confused and undecided on a product. Just a soon as I felt like one framework product would work for me, I would find a message stating how much better another framework was than the one I felt would work for me. Anyway, if anyone has some ideas on which product might work best for smaller/midsized/LAN based - multi-user apps, I would appreciate hearing from you.
