If you look in the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Hardware/Description/System/CentralProcessor/0

Their are sub-keys called ~MHz (gives the CPU speed) and VendorIdentifier (gives the vendor information/make).

I dont think ~MHz is stored all the time (I havn't had time to look at when it will and when it won't, sorry).
