Maybe it's something good for you. In VB, you have RDS, Remote data service (I'm not sure...) Anyway, I'm not sure if it is VB, MSDN or Option Pack 4 that install this exemple, but you really can access a database over http. Just try to find on your computer a folder that as MSADC. There is an exemple (a userDocument in vb that you can recode to be an Activex or wathever). The access path on my machine was
D:\Program Files\Common Files\System\msadc\Samples\Selector\Client\VB\VBtoVB
