Set the database to "Select Into/bulk copy" in the properties/options tab. This will put you in a non-logged mode for doing bulk loads. Be sure you reset this before you resume production.

If you are having problems in production, check you initial size and growth settings. I usually start my log size at 20-25% of my database size. HTH
