Thanks Ronald. I'll try it.
P.S.
I was so surprised when I opened your response, I lived in Hollywood, Florida for 30 years before moving to Cranston, RI. Small World.

>>At one point in my application, the system opens a word document and does an 'activedocument.saveas(filename)' to create a product specific document. Works fine, basically names the document the product name with a '-' and revision number. It doesn't save it with the *.doc extension which is fine with me. However, at another point, the newly created document is called and a mailmerge is done (activedocument.mailmerge.exectute' and saves the document but ADDS the *.doc extension. As far as I can tell, the only difference in the two operations is that for the second document, the mailmerge is called. How can I either add the *.doc to both or eliminate the *.doc from the second document? Have a lot of automation with the documents and the problem is, it's looking for the product-revision named document without the extension and can't find it since Word saved it with the *.doc. Thanks so much.
