Where and when are you opening the Coutnry table and is Country its alias name?

If you are not using teh DE to open teh country table then that explains your error, when the gird is created the count5ry table is not open yet. So leave teh controlsource for that column blank in teh deigner and set it in the form's inti with;

Thisform.Grid1.Column(#).Controlsource = "country.Name"
