Yes, the code is a little old-fashioned, but deliberately so. They are very conservative in moving forward into full blown VFP, as there are millions of combinations that need to be checked. And when bad code can destroy someone's accounting system, you need to be really careful.
As an aside, if you don't understand accounting, I suggest you bone up on it. Just changing code can cause the accounting system to lose its integrity. Things like editing Invoices and Cash Receipts are not only bad accounting, but can get you charged with accessory to embezzlement or Tax evasion -- under the right conditions.
