The best solution for this is to house the database's and free tables in directories immediately off your main system directory.

For example, your system directory may be:
C:\MySoftware

Store your tables in the directory:
C:\MySoftware\Tables

When you run your .EXE, you know that the database directory is always immediately off the current directory, for example

open database tables\mycontainer shared
