I have customized SBT and Visual Accountmate. Both have their pluses and minuses. SBT Offers a 2 or 3 day course in SBT customizations. I took the class a couple of years ago in their CA office and it was very good.

Once you realize how SBT does things (they are consistant, right or wrong, the code style is the same between modules and versions), customizations become easier.

Visual Accountmate is more OOPish. However you do not get 100% source code. So mods that should be easy, like adding a 3rd address line to all checks. is not because you do not get the source for printing checks. Also Visual Accountmate is not consistant. Code and controls between SO and AR are/act different when they should be fairly close (as an example).

Both have their draw backs and I will never take another job working with either (but that's off the point).

SBT offers a course on customizing SBT.

>Thanks, but I'm working with SO,AR,IC ... well now you know the hell that I'm into.... I have done some modifications... but after hours of going trough the code and guessing and tracking down data on the files... I'm thinking in offer Visual Account Mate to my customers... I saw some code... and the code it's by far, more clear (at least to me) than PRO5....

>>>I'm begginning to modify SBT Pro 5 (VFP), but the programming style is very strange, at least to me. Does anyone knows a book, reference material or course to learn more about the programming. The technical reference that comes with PRO 5 does not cover that much about how the thing get done, just structures, and global variables. Help anybody.

>>I have worked on a SBT Pro 5 Payroll system to make some modifications. I thought that since it was in VFP it would be very easy to make changes. Boy was I wrong. I ended up creating a "reports" menu that the users can run to do some of the custom reporting. (However, this does not help if files need to be updated.)

>>From what I've seen of SBT you can not learn anything from a book that will help you understand SBT code. It seems that much of it is "leftovers" from the old dBase days. Plan on spending hours stepping through the code! If you have specific questions about PR I might be able answer a question or two.
