Kev,

If you don't want to be able to edit the grid, then you can put a transparent shape over the top of the grid. The mouse pointer won't change then. (but you won't be able to click in the grid. If you want to enable the scroll bars, you can make the shape small enough so the scroll bars stick out from under the shape.
