That's the key word that most normalization haters don't understand. Personally I find it fun to watch some folks who beat the "Normalization is not always a good thing" and then post a fully normalized design as an example. John is not one of the folks I am referring to here.
I've been in threads where there is someone who just berates normalization to the hilt and then uses a normalized design as their example for why normalization is not always a good thing.
The best definitiion for normalization that I have ever seen was from Chris Date when he said, "Normalization is formalized common sense."
