I am working on a legacy application for a customer and have run into a problem with network drives appearing to time out. The application is a client/server app which allows the fire stations here to update several databases contained on the server. The server is a Windows NT box and the clients are running Windows 95. This is a TCP/IP network and the clients are using ISDN dialup lines to access the server. The problem that we are having is that after about 20 minutes of inactivity from the app, we start getting several system error messages finally resulting in a "Network Error - Drive L:" message. We have also noticed that we are unable to access this drive from windows explorer without first closing down the application and also closing and re-opening windows explorer. The network is setup to drop the ISDN connection after a few minutes of inactivity to save connection charges. Also apparently the router on the server end is set to drop its connection after a longer period of inactivity. We did notice that the ISDN modem is re-dialing, but does not appear to connect immediatly when the error condition is present. Once the app is closed everything works correctly. We suspect that there is something happening with the file handles. Is there a way of re-initalizing network connections in FoxPro 26, or alternativly is there a way to force foxpro to shut down the application after a period of inactivity? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
