I think that the checkbox in the PM item is in the event that you give the user the right to change the drive or directory, it will force the item checked to a particular subdirectory of the drive selected. However, you have to preface the path with '%s' (small cap 's') so that the drive selected replaces the wildcard. I don't know what happens if you don't put the "%s". I have just done this with a similar set of facts to yours and I got it to work.
