Peter:

Typically my progress bars work in one of two ways; a counter which runs (ie: 20th record of 100, to give you 20%) or a timer control which fires every nth second (ie: report takes 1 minute to run, and you control fires every second).

The problem you have with the "Copy File" command is that it goes off to do it's thing and VFP "waits" until it finishes, therefore you won't be able to update any progress bars.

If you really need a progress bar then you could open the table, and copy each record, one by one ... this would enable you to keep a counter running.

You could always have a separate table that records how long it takes to backup, and then display a message on the screen saying backup normally takes x minutes -- please wait!

Hope this helps,
