But remember this is a
legal distinction (aka illogical to us mere mortals < g >). If I contribute a chapter to a book or an article to a magazine, I generally retain copyright of the chapter or article (and give the publisher permission to use it, perhaps exclusively for a certain amount of time), but the publisher retains copyright in the book or magazine as a whole.
