I avoid SET DELETED ON. I delete records by changing my integer keys to the negative of themselves.

The VFE framework always creates new records but I could probably change it to check for deleted records and re-use them. I would probably adopt some rule that I not recycle records until they have been deleted for a month. (I like to be able to see deleted records for a while in case questions arise.)
