Hi Peter,
It formats the code, properly. I tend to use it whenever I post a snippet, regardless of whether or not there's indentation. If I don't (and there is indentation), the indentation's lost because the parser strips out the spaces. If there isn't I still use it so that the font (it's Courier New I think) is different and it's then easily indentifiable as code.
