1. Technical resources (people)
2. Good sense of community (usually)
3. Navigation/ Search/ Threading/ Calendar
4. Message boxes (I can't believe noone said this yet)

I surf occasionally on various newsgroups and on FoxForum, and often see someone post a question that I could answer if I had one more vital piece of information. Here, I post a question requesting the missing details. There, I skip over the question entirely, because I know that the next time I check in I will have to search for responses to me before following up, and this is not a good way to spend time. Message boxes allow you to follow only threads thatyou are involved with, and not wade through the rest.
