I have been looking at some stuff, and its possible the EnumPrinter API call will give you a status on the printer, if you ask for a PRINT_INFO_2 struct.

I have gotten side tracked, and I am also getting up to speed with Christof's struct class in order to access this API call, so I haven't verified this yet.

Its documented in the MSDN lib if you are interested.
