that is a good idea...
i tried this and did not find anything wrong with the record

i figured out the problem ...
my client is using a different printer and the width of the detail band in the report is greater than the width of the default page.

In the past when this occurred I received a "detail band too large" error and the report would not print.
Interesting that I received an "Illegal Operation"/"Windows system error" rather than some kind of specific foxpro error.
The printer the report is sent to is NOT a local printer ; maybe that explains why we were not getting a Foxpro error.
