Thanks to all who have been giving advice about books, etc. I agree that Hacker's Guide is for reference which is what I told him. Our first concern is his initial exposure. He will be "sitting in" on things we're doing of course, but we want him to be studying too. It seems from the responses so far that the "Effective Techniques" book is most recommended. Does anyone have any experience with the "Special Edition Using Visual Foxpro ..." (5 or 6)? It seemed to me to be more of a beginner level, but with more depth than the "Dummies" book, although that might be good to start him on too.
