Bingo! I actually discovered this after this mornings post. The difference is that I tried it out of trial and error and have no idea why it makes a difference. You, on the other hand, know exactly why it does and will tell me.(bg)
I can only assume that since SQL is an enterprise product made to be accessed across domains, that SQL only recognises global groups? Hmm, I wonder if I added the new global group to the original local group...? Oh well, I might try that when I have some time. Actually it sounds like a fool's errand.
I checked SQL BOL and it makes no distinction between local and global groups and implies that either can be used.
