>I created a VFP dbf file from an Excel spreadsheet and modified cdx file to correct layout changes and indexes. In design time environment BROWSE shows the new database with 281 records. During runtime browsing the database stops at the old record count of 227 but shows the last record as being 227/281.

Gordon,
First I'll try the silly one. Could it be the order ? I mean record 227 might be the last in current order.

Next, I have encountered problems with importing data from excel. "Import" and "append from" work different. MS have KB entry about it. You may hit it if excel sheet was pasted, pasted special to fill cells. Also if it's imported into a database with a name clause it doesn't always get the desired sheet but first sheet.

Last, a totally new table with fresh cdx (better created after appending). In excel you could save as a CSV and "append from" in VFP.
Hope helps.
