You can upgrade from 2.6 to 2.6a with patches from http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q102/8/93.asp?FinishURL=%2Fdownloads%2Frelease%2Easp%3FReleaseID%3D12990%26redirect%3Dno.

Be sure to patch both the .exe and the .esl files.

The "unofficial" patch and the "official" patch are the same.
