i remember seeing a debate/thread about this ...
and the conclusion was that when properly configured one could access data quickly from foxpro databases in ODBC if the indexes were set up properly.
Not that Access would actually "open up" the CDX but that the ODBC "DSN" had to be set up correctly and you had to set up the SQL-SELECT statements properly in Access (or whatever front end tool you were using)
