>MY VFP6 table has, among others, an index on DELETED(). I'm trying to link to this table from Access 97. Whether my ODBC connection is defined as a free table or as a .DBC, I get the error message:
>Invalid field definition 'DELETED()' in definition of index or relationship. (Error 3409). How can I get around this problem since I need to keep that index on the VFP table?

There is a known issue with indexes on logical conditions in some versions of the ODBC driver. Your easiest bet would be to remoe the tag on DELETED()
