>I recently started a thread about using WSH in a web page which resulted in the conclusion that ( IMO and maybe other too ) this is not a good idea for security reasons.

In lieu of using this method, ( and my poking around for hours looking for it ) what would be the preferred method of accomplishing this task within a web page?

You might not have a choice. The only things that make WSH a bad choice, IMO, are the security issues and Netscrape incompatibility. Any other solution you find will probably have the same issues. Native browser functionality doesn't offer much in the way of System data, and for good reason- this is considered a major invasion of privacy by many.
