>Thanks for feedback on VFP6 and JPG.

>Here is my question.

Here are some points that I think will treat you well:

- If you want to work with JPEG's in VFP, it's a must to upgrade to 6.0

- If your imagery is coming from the likes of a color digital camera (e.g., 24-bit 16.7 million color Jpegs), then I think you will have no problems.

- There is a wonderful DLL available from Smaller Animals Software (http://www.smalleranimals.com) that works like a charm with VFP and will do all kinds of conversions and image processing/formatting. Note: It is not an ActiveX control... to my knowledge it will not display images for interactive editing like the LeadTools product (which is powerful but mucho expensive and does NOT permit royalty free distribution of your apps). The DLL works behind the scenes, doing what you tell it to via simple API calls from VFP. I have used it extensively and it is rock solid stable. You can use it within VFP (or use a DOS utility suite called SASUITE from the same company) to convert all bad-behaved Jpegs into perfectly compatible ones. Let me know if you get the DLL and I'll send you a VFP class that encapsulates some of its functionality. The DLL is called ThnImage.DLL. (Oops, I see on their web site that ThnImage.DLL has been DC'd for a newer product called ImgSource v1.4 -- I'm sure that all the functionality of ThnImage plus more is in ImgSource).

- The quickest way to "sanitize" inbound imagery for your app, I think, is to get their DOS utilities: SASUITE 3.0.
