I had the same problem Sunday also, and I noticed that during much of Sunday I would click on a message and there would be a long wait with no message. If it clicked my browser's STOP button and then clicked the link again it would ALWAYS bring up the message very fast!

It's like there was some kind of lost connection problem on the internet. But every time I hit STOP then clicked again, it would come up almost instantly.

I rebooted at least once, started up the browser several times, and still had the problem over a period of 6 hours or so. Could be that the lower pane problem is(was) related to that same thing.
