Creating barcodes is most easily accomplished in a WInAPp by using a Windows barcode font. There are a large number of vendors for them; Adobe is a good source.

Reading barcodes can be anwhere from trivial to extrememly tasking, depending on the type of barcode reader you employ. The simplest type are wedge devices; these are barcode readers that act as if the barcode read by them were typed into the keyboard. Mpst wedge scanners require no special processsing, unless the barcode itself requires special processing. Serial devices require the development of a serial interface, and it gets worse from there.
