Dan, if you have control over your development web server (I assume it is NT Server running IIS, not MS personal Web Server), you can allow the Web Service to interact with the desktop, so you can see when your out-off process exe throws up a message. This will not allow your in-process dll to generate a report or anything.
If you are running NT Server (or workstation), go to the control pannel and select 'services' and modify the 'World Wide Publishing Services' server and select the 'Allow service to interact with desktop' check box. Probably you'll have to restart the machine.
Then your exe can throw user input dialogs up and you can see whats happening from the server desktop.
Just an idea.
Rob.
