We might be experiencing the same problem. I've tried downloading the most current driver from HP. There are two drviers I've downloaded, the HP Laserjet 4000 PCL 5e and the HP Laserjet PCL 6. But the system still hanged.

I haven't tried an HP Laserjet III series. But I've tried using the HP Laserjet 2000. What happened was we were experiencing problems in printing of other applications.(i.e. Excel, Word, Mail, etc.)

Users don't what to change their printer settings each time they move from one application to another. At any rate, I'll try using the driver you've suggested.
