According to Joe Celko's "SQL for Smarties: Advance SQL Programming", a DOMAIN is like an in-line Macro. I looked up macro in the index and this is where I was refered. It is described as a new schema element in SQL-92. Now that I've told you all I know, maybe someone else can fill in more of the puzzle.
