That's good planning UNLESS the client insists on having a 700K+ record browse/grid available - which they DID. And, of course, "The customer is always right - even when he's wrong" :-)
However, they are paying me to REWRITE about half the app for SQL-Server 2 years later, so I'm not complaining too loudly.
>Yep. That's why I always do my apps based only in views, even if I'm COMPLETELY sure that the data will be always local < g >. In the past it tooks me a pair of complete rewrites. BTW, you can bill a lot more for C/S apps so I write every new local data app using MSDE instead of the VFP engine. It's not true that you can develop your apps using local views and then transform them to remote views for C/S. When you have complex apps, the diferences between SQL Sever and VFP SQL dialects makes two separate apps a must.
