I will try to answer this last question, but keep in mind that I am NOT a VB programmer:
High demand:
- VB is easier to learn
- VB, VBA and VBScript are almost the same language and this gives a large spectrum of applications
where it can be used directly
- VB is promoted by MS
As for Toronto/Ontario area, VB is not in such high demand and I still wait to hear about a company that did something really serious in VB.
I found it to be very good for small COM components, as a thin wrapper for database-ADO tasks, small test programs,
Word and Excel automation, and other small tasks.
