>It's a shame Dr. Demento is no longer on the airwaves (at least I can't find him anymore). :( If he was, at least then you might be able to hear some Tom Lehrer, too. He's where Weird Al got his start. (Another One Rides the Bus)

>Hey, Ed, you remember Dr. D, don't you? He's not that long ago.
You bet - I was a faithful listener for a number of years of my misspent youth, and WABC carried the broadcast every Saturday evening until sometime in the mid-80s, and then they did rebroadcasts for a couple of years. There are albums pulled from the broadcast supposedly on one of the ABC labels; I don't have any of them, but occasionally get tempted when I see something on eBay.
I'm constantly amazed at amount of stuff that I listened to growing up, really enjoyed, never really thought much about it, but do dearly miss it now. Dr. Demento was a great example - I never really planned to listen to the broadcast, but did as often as I could. And I'd like to have the recordings off the air that never really registered as far as an artist, but when I hear it now instantly reminds me - "Hey - this is really funny!"
