Tom Lehrer awareness is lower outside New England (and I remember that you went to M.I.T.). But just think - 40 years from now Mike Helland will be shaking his stick at young whippersnappers from Alabama or someplace who have never heard of Garrison Keillor.
An original copy of "Songs by Tom Lehrer" on either LP or two 45rpms is a collectors item. It has the picture of Tom Lehrer with devil horns. The reissue had a different cover, and the songs "I wanna go back to dixie" and "Nicolai Ivanovich Lobachevski" re-recorded with somewhat updated lyrics and a more tepid performance. The three LPs, reissued, are common enough in stores that sell comedy LPs. I'm not surprised that they are available on CD, but I haven't seen them.
>Two game wardens, seven hunters and a purebred Jersey cow? I was at a Gilbert & Sullivan show one evening when the lead baritone paused for applause after singing "Modern Major General" and then launched into "The Elements". Got a MUCH bigger hand. I've got the albums - but no record player any longer :-(
