>>Believe it or not, UT is not the driving force behind what I run here. No - I had all sorts of woerdness with Outlook 98 and some of the Active Desktop stuff I have on my machines that are lots more useful (like my virtual stickypad notes) than a browser beta. When I had problems with Outlook98 and an instance of IE5.5 andOE that I use to read newsgroups, tow of them worked just fine before IE 5.5, and IE 5.5 didn't make a noticable improvement in my life. there's good beta code (like beta WSH 2.0 was. Nice puppy.) and there's evil beta code. 5.5 was at least borderline evil, made spots on the rug and tried to blame the puppy...

Quick translation - IE 5.5, plus Outlook 98 locked dead to the world if I popped a new stickynote. I could get IE 5.5, OE and Outlook 98 up, but task switches took measurable (like long enough to go to the kichen and get a fresh cup of coffee, 10-15 seconds) to switch around from task to task, on a box with plenty of fast disk as swap space and 256MB.
