Are you doing this on your installs? What model driver are you using? I know before SP3 there was an issue with blue screens and freezing up with HP drivers. I use PROMPT almost always.
We use HP4n, HP6L, HP4000, HP2Plus all with the HP drivers (not MS ones).

Sorry, I am not being much of a help, but just to know that it is possible.

P.S. The error kinda sounds like an OS problem.
