It's fairly easy to create a little reindex routine that stores the index information. Instead of reindexing you just run the program to delete the tags, recalls the stores index descriptions and recreate the indexes. This is especially valuable when the CDX is so badly corrupted you can't even open the table to remind yourself what all the indexes were.
