I have attempted to install MSSQL 7.0 - Desktop Edition on a Windows98 Second Edition machine. In one case it was successful and the server started. In the other case, a machine with considerably more programs, gets to the 'Start Service' bar in the install and ultimately hangs saying it cannot configure the server (nor start it). I have checked the cnfgsrvr.out and sqlstp.log and no clues. The cnfgsrvr.out file just says that server could not configure (error 1460). The setup log appears not to have had any problems. Someone at MS suggested that I look at the system .dll's and make sure none are different version than the ones SQL is trying to load, although in the same breath, he did not know how you would get a list from SQL Server that could be compared to any system directory. Anyone have any clues????
TIA
