I would define robustness as the ability to protect the data in the event of a crash. SQL Server uses the transaction log to ensure that committed transactions survive "unexpected" downtime of the server. Plus, there are a variety of backup mechanisms that minimize data lost, and possibly, under specific circumstances, almost no loss.
