Just curriosity here...
Have you tried putting a statement like:

thisform.yourgrid.column#.removeObject( this.text1 )

anywhere in your code just to see if it will remove it programatically? Obviously the preference would be to delete it in the development environment instead of at run-time, but I was just currious if it works for you this way or not.
