Several attempts at this, using the Add/Remove option in Office 2000 only ended up with everyone's favorite the BSD (Blue Screen of Death). After much fiddling I around (including a re-install of Win 98SE), I found the problem. Since the original installation of Office 2000, I had installed the desktop version of MS SQL Server 7.0. Uninstalling that (fortunately, I had just done it a day or so previous), was the fix.
