Hi John,
>I share your feelings about doing more n-tier stuff with VFP but I don't think it's going to happen for me. I've spend a lot of time researching the n-tier techniques but have decided not to use VFP for my new projects. This is not just because our IT Director directly told me "Let's get rid of this Foxpro stuff and do browser based ActiveX development".
I think your IT Director is ontrack. I think proprietary interfaces are going away and that's a good standard for inhouse development.
Still, I think VFP has a role in that in the middle-tier. I understand your concerns about breaking the bank, but I would think a VB or VC++ ActiveX/COM developer is going to be no more or less expensive.
OTOH, sadly, I have to agree that there are a lot of Fox developers out there who are stuck in the pre-Visual mindset (he says, as he sips coffee from his multi-colored Fox head logo coffee mug, circa 1991). I think that is going to kill us, and maybe the product, in the long term.
