An index for one of the tables included in your .DBC is not legal - it may be corrupted, or you may have done something that changed the field(s) that comprise that index and somehow failed to update the index file. In essense, you've a problem that must be corrected before using the .DBC.

The first thing to check is if the DBC's index itself is damaged - you can try deleting the .DCX file and letting that get recreted. I'd also close everything, and from the Command Window:

OPEN DATABASE problem DBC EXCLUSIVE
VALIDATE DATABASE RECOVER

I rely on a third-party tool, Stonefield Database Toolkit, to handle maintaining the integrity of my databases and providing a means to update elements of the DBC, tables, views, tables, indexes - even free tables - after deployment. It has strong REINDEX and PACK replacements, validation, repair and an update facilitythat allows youto ship files describing how things are to be updated, and SDT does the work for you. It's probably the single best investment in a third-party tool for VFP I've made to date. www.stonefield.com
