I'm not sure. I believe it was more because after Stalin's death, the Russian influence and dominance was not
so strong as while Stalin was there. Anyway, do you really believe Ceausescu could tweak Russia's nose if
Russia would not want it? :) It was all just an act...

Anyway, Russian was not mandatory when I was in school (or, not anymore). And I said "fortunately", because
this way I've learned English and French and both were useful to me here in Canada.
