I met very similar problem in my application. Interesting is the fact, that this behavior occurs with the new SP3 "service packed" runtime only. If I use the older one (without SP3), everything works O.K. I think it's a bug of VFP6.0 SP3 runtime. I'm just looking also for some solution, but till now with no success. If you find out something, I'l be glad if you let me know.
