>>You obviously have no idea how uselss I am when it comes to hardware. Don't know if the thing has a serial port. Don't know what one looks like. And I can't imagine all there is to it is to stick one end of a cable in the unix box, the other end in the PC, and run a program on the PC. How does the unix box know what to do?

Worst case, you'd disconnect the cable connecting one of the existing terminals to the unix box and attachthat to the serial port of your PC (you might need a 25 pin-9 pin converter.) HyperTerminal is a terminal emulator that comes with Win9x. Lessee...itmakes the PC act like a terminal. You figit with the line settings (you need to match the baud rate, start and stop bits used by the terminal) and once those are set, typing on the PC keyboard is just like typing on the keyboard of a terminal on the unix box. HyperTerm can capture the stuff sent across to file, so just list the file to the terminal. DOne.

The unix box doesn't have any terminals. Just a monitor and a keyboard. It's just like a PC except it uses unix.

I think I see what you're saying. Then how would you reverse it to get the stuff on the other unix box?

Thanks,

Michelle
